It's about more than great shoes.
Growing up in Italy, Maria Gangemi was captivated by the artisans handcrafting shoes in their small, family-owned workshops. After forging her own career in the footwear industry and watching many of those workshops close, she dreamed up a new approach to Italian luxury.
In 2015, Maria and CEO Cheryl Kaplan founded M.Gemi on a mission to keep generations-old Italian craftsmanship alive while responding to how people live, dress, and shop today.

We source and produce exclusively in Italy, home to a leather industry that’s been around since the 8th century BC and a rich shoemaking tradition. And we go one step further, ensuring all of our leathers come from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries committed to responsible production.

We partner with small, family-owned workshops throughout Italy who specialize in the shoes we love to wear. More than some of the best shoemakers in the world, these artisans are our famiglia. And we’re determined to preserve their livelihoods and traditional craftsmanship—making sure it gets passed to the next generation.

Small Batch, Always
We make our shoes and handbags in small batches that release each week. Healthier for our artisans’ business and ours, it’s a continuous, responsible production model that allows us to react quickly to customer feedback, reduce our environmental impact, and offer luxury Italian designs at approachable prices.
